Most people think that in order to be a successful speaker you need to be a professional athlete, a famous celebrity, or have a severe physical disability that makes you stand out.
True. Athletes and celebrities do get speeches thrown at them here and there because of name-recognition, but if they suck or they don’t understand the business of speaking they never get asked back.
Also, did you know that there are over 56 million people in the United States who have a disability? Guess how many of them go on to become successful speakers? Less than a dozen. I can say that because I know most of them personally.
